February 2006
- "Coa Go International" - The senior team heads to wales to
play Cardiff's St Colmcille's on the 3rd March. Should be good craic
before "Hurpe" goes mad with the training!! Liam and Brian look forward
to opening their wallets on the friday and saturday night!
- Training has begun and initial turn outs have been very good. The management may have a delima on squad numbers this year.
March 2006
- "Coa O Dwyers hit Cardiff " - Day (1), Over twenty
hardy souls left Coa and Enniskillen at 4.00am on Friday 3nd March on
one of Junior's buses, after what could only be described as a fresh
bus journey to Dublin the Coa boys arrived in Dublin Airport.
After an eventful check in, the departure lounge was hit,
thankfully it was too early for refreshments, i.e. the bar was closed!!
Landed in Cardiff at approx 8.00am after a quick 45 minute flight, and
got the bus to the "hotel". The hotel would have made faulty towers
look good, but the bar was open early and therefore we soon forgot
about the conditions of the rooms! We got a great run down on the
city from the Cardiff manager, Declan McSorley. He told us where all
"areas of interest" where, and it was noted by some of our party!!
By this time all bags were safely stored in our cells, sorry i
mean rooms, and the social side of the trip had began. Its a good
job some of our team are not professional pool players, as i seem to
remember a lot of pound coins being transferred across the table.
By this time a lot of the lads were starved, and as there
was no Al a Carte menu at "The Blue Dragon" it was time to hit the
town. It seemed as if the weather had followed the plane, because
as we walked up Cardiff main Street it began to snow, and a lot of the
players were seriously concerned about the match going ahead the next
day. The group finally settled in "Wee O'Neill's" after a fairly
testing tour of the local sights, there we were treated to some
traditional Irish Ballads, song by a local Irish group 'Irish Bling'.
Cardiff at night is a busy place and it was noticable that some
of the traveling party were suffering from the extentive travel of the
day. So it was off to bed early in preparation for the game the
next day. Day (2),
Breakfast was called at around 8.30am, and it was plain to be seen that
the lads were up for the game with everyone turning out bright
and early for the bacon and eggs, and the morning management meeting,
it was advised that a lot of water be taken on to combat the alltitude
we were to be playing at, and the fry had been a bit salty..
Marty Dolan a Fermanagh exile himself then organised lifts for
the Coa team and of we went, passing the magnificent Cardiff Stadium on
our way to Cardiff's grounds. There was good banter in the
changing rooms, mostly because we finally could get a clean shower,
unlike those in our rooms back at the Hotel. The game itself was
played in good conditions on a fair surface. Even some Fermanagh
and Coa exiles had made it over for the match. The Coa team
it would seem, were suffering from their heavy travel program the
previous day and didnt show any signs of last years form in the first
half at all, and went in trailing at the interval by a few points.
The management delivered, what could only be described as a
rousing half time team talk and this seemed to do the lads the world of
good with the O'Dwyers turning in a better second half display, only
losing narrowly in the end by a few points. The game had been
played in a very sporting manner.
- Challange match with Tempo in Cavanacarragh, played in great
conditions with a depleted squad. The players that stood out were Eoin
Donnelly, Lee McQuade. Final score 3,9 to 15 points - a draw. This is a
great result for the juniors, as Tempo are in division one this year,
this bodes well for the rest of the season.
April 2006
- The Erne Cup campaign got of to a strange start, with Coa
picking up points without kicking a ball against Maguiresbridge.
With no team appearing for the bridge, 2 points were put on
the table.
- The second round was played at home against Aughdrumsee,
this time there was some action, with the o'dwyers running out easy
winners, by 15 points.
- The third round was again a funny situation with Roslea B serving up another no show, another 2 points.
- The minors got of to a great start in Division 1, easily beating Roslea by 6 points at home
May 2006
- The minors had a
hard fought game in brewster against Enniskillen Gaels going down 1.08
to 2.10. They will bee kicking themselves, as this was a game
they could have won.
- Good news for the Coa minor
team, with Lee Mc Quade, Cathal Beacom and Eoin Donnelly selected to
play for Fermanagh in the Ulster Minor Championship, against Antrim.
Fair play lads and good luck.
- The juniors have an easy month
in May as there will only be one match played. This is against
Ederney St Joesphs on the 27th May.
